Postpartum Exercise Consultations – Supporting Your Recovery

Hi, I’m Sam, a Clinical Exercise Physiologist at Enriching Health in Panania and the BCHP head coach. Returning to exercise after childbirth is essential for regaining strength, improving mobility, and enhancing overall well-being. A structured postpartum fitness plan can help:

  • Strengthen the core and pelvic floor, reducing issues such as back pain and incontinence.

  • Improve posture and flexibility to counteract the physical demands of motherhood.

  • Support weight management and cardiovascular health.

  • Increase energy levels to assist with daily activities and caring for your child.

  • Enhance mental health by reducing stress and symptoms of postpartum depression.

I booked a postpartum consult with Sam when I was 7 months postpartum. In the consult we went over all of my health and fitness history. Sam was thorough and caring with her questioning and I felt like she was able to gain a holistic view on what I needed going forward on my fitness journey.

Sam recommended completing 1:1 sessions with her to gain my confidence back in the gym. The 1:1 sessions have been tailored to my needs and are appropriate to the level of fitness I'm at. I look forward to my sessions each week and I am loving seeing my progress. Sam has a great knowledge and you can tell she is passionate about her job.

Being able to bring my kids along to these sessions with Sam has made me feel welcomed and included in the Enriching Health Community.

FAQ’s about Post Partum Exercise

  • Every woman’s experience is different, but we generally recommend waiting until you’ve had your 6-week postpartum check-up with your GP or obstetrician. From there, our Exercise Physiologists can guide you through a safe and structured return based on your delivery and how you're feeling physically and mentally.

  • This 30-minute session is a chance for us to understand your pregnancy, birth, and current physical and emotional health. We’ll chat through your goals, address any concerns, and outline the best approach for rebuilding strength, energy, and confidence.

  • Not at all. Whether you’re an experienced gym-goer or completely new to exercise, we tailor everything to your current level. We’ll start where you’re at and progress gradually and safely from there.

  • Our one-on-one sessions offer completely personalised support, which many new mums prefer during the early stages of recovery. Once you feel more confident, you can transition into our semi-private, supportive group classes at your own pace. Both options are available, and we’ll help you decide what feels right.

  • Absolutely. Our space is family-friendly, and we want you to feel comfortable training in an environment that supports your role as a new mum.

  • We’ll focus on core and pelvic floor strength, mobility, posture correction, and gradual strength-building. You’ll always know the “why” behind each movement, and nothing is rushed.

  • Yes. After your consultation, you are welcome to join in one of our Semi-private Post-Partum classes or book yourself in for a one-on-one session. From there, we’ll work with you to build a sustainable plan and check in regularly on your progress.

  • That’s exactly why we offer individual consultations. Whether you had a C-section, tearing, pelvic pain, or are managing other concerns, we create your plan with the appropriate care, modifications, and guidance.
